Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education, (declared as Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 ) Tumkur, was established vide MHRD GOI No. F.9-31/2006-U.3 (A) dated: 30/05/2008 of Govt. of India.  Sri Siddhartha Medical College and Sri Siddhartha Dental College have been functioning as constituent colleges of Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education since 01/06/2008

“Colleges are places where pebbles are polished and diamonds are shined”. Encouraging such young in individuals to see their dream come true is Sri Siddhartha Medical College. Every working moment at S.S.M.C is filled with keen pursuit of improvement and perfection.

Established in the year 1988, spread over a vast area of 250 acres, S.S.M.C has a class infrastructure with a build up area of 75000 Sq.mts. It has proficient & dedicated faculty driven by a commitment to give the best to the ailing in the community, the knowledge to student and thereby be of service to humanity.

The teaching hospital has 850 bedded hospital with ten major operation theatres along with a trauma care unit, ICU, CCU, NICU and male and female wards etc.  The Radiology department is provided with Latest Spiral CT, MRI, Mammography and other imaging equipments.

All departments are equipped with latest medical equipments. All the lecture halls are fitted with audio visual aids. Various teaching disciplines are housed in separate buildings. There is a well equipped centrally air conditioned library in the campus consisting of 14,000 volumes of the books. Besides Indian and foreign journals there is a Digital Library attached with Internet facility (Helinet). The library is kept open till midnight during examination period. A modern fully air conditioned auditorium in the campus with excellent audio and video facility having comfortable seating for 1200 people and this serves as the venue for seminars/conferences and cultural fest. There is a separate hostel accommodation available for both boys and girls having facilities for recreation, indoor sports, gym, television, internet, cafeteria, lockers etc. The campus also has banking with ATM and post office facility along with food courts, stationary and pharmacy stores.

The Karnataka Private Medical & Dental Colleges Association, in their endeavour to offer an effective, fair and objective testing procedure to determine merit of students seeking admission to the member institutions, have formed “Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka” (COMEDK).

The Medical College and Hospital are situated adjacent to each other on a campus spread over 45 acres. The campus houses black stone buildings of old world charm which are well ventilated and illuminated. The college departments, the central library and residential areas are distributed in various blocks spread over acre land on a single campus in the city.

The massive hospital building is also very spacious with adequate natural illumination and ventilation. The campus has its own beautiful landscaped gardens. It is eco friendly having its own affluent water treatment plant and incinerator for waste management. It is also served by a generator for round the clock electricity supply during power failure. The college has 23 departments with state of the art facilities for teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students. In addition, the college has a separate department of Kannada and Culture which is one of the first in the state as well as a department of yoga science.

 The Medical College Hospital has a 965 bed unit. Apart from providing outpatient services to various departments it also has inpatient facilities servicing various departments. It has a fully equipped Intensive Coronary Care Unit, Intensive Care Unit, Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Care Unit, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, a specialized isolated sterile burns ward. All of these are fully  quipped with required Monitors, Pulse Oxymeters, Defibrillators, Ventilators, Infusion Pumps and various other specialized equipments required for critical patient care. The hospital is equipped with the advanced 1.5 tesla MR1 Scan, 6 slice CT Scan along with routine radiological instrumentation like fixed x-ray machine, multiple portable x-ray machines, 3D Colour Doppler etc. In addition the hospital has provided ultra sound equipment in the labour room and portable colour Doppler in the ICU and ICCU. The hospital also has a fully developed Urology unit with all Endo urological equipment. It also has an extra corporeal shock wave lithotripsy equipment. The department of Nephrology is equipped with four Haemo dialysis units and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis facilities are available. In the department of Medicine a unit of Medical Gastro Enterology functions with availability of all necessary video endoscopes for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. For all surgical specialties, laproscopic instruments are available to cater for General Surgery, Obst/Gynaec and Urology departments. The hospital also has a Blood bank which functions for 24 hours a day.The department of Ophthalmology is highly equipped with YAG lasers, Diode laser, Fundus Camera and Computerized Perimetry etc.
