J.J.M. Medical College, Davangere was established in the year 1965, affiliated to Mysore University, Mysore and to Kuvempu University, Shankaraghatta, Shimoga District from 1987 and later to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka, Bangalore since 1996. The institution with a mandate to work
towards developing socially responsible and competent health work force is striving continuously to meet the health needs of the region in a tertiary level responsibility. It is carryingout need based health system research work with an eye to use such strategies to cover the overall community development.
Under the able stewardship of Shamanur Shivashankarappa, the BEA in general and J.J.M. Medical College in particular has grown from strength to strength. Under its sphere of activities the academic fraternity, employees, students and community at large have been infused with progressive attitude.
VISION: Few visionaries in 1957 thought of founding an educational association. Thus in the year 1958 the Bapuji Educational Association, Davangere took its birth . The BEA has given Davangere its pride of place in the educational land scape of the country. The vision of Sri.Shamanur Shivashankarappa, Hon. Secretary of the Association has resulted in establishing a chain of educational institutions. The BEA is running institutions from Nursery to Professional courses, thus having 33 institutions in its fold.
